What is NR, and how does it work?

NR, short for Nicotine Ribosomide, has recently become a hot topic in science and the wellness community.

NR supplements are gaining recognition for their potential to boost energy, enhance brain function, and even slow down the ageing process. But what exactly is NR, and why is it so important?

Let’s first have a look at Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, short for NAD+.

What is NAD+ ?

NAD+ is a fundamental molecule which is involved in hundreds of metabolic processes throughout your body.

Its most crucial roles include helping turn nutrients into energy and working as a fuel for the enzymes involved in DNA protection and repair. In many ways, NAD+ is key for healthy energy levels and your body’s repair and recovery mechanisms.

Unfortunately, NAD+ levels naturally decline with age, whilst our body starts to show the typical signs of ageing.

A 50-year-old, for example, has roughly half the levels of NAD+ as a 20-year-old. You can live with low levels of NAD+, but it will accelerate the ageing process and reduce your health span.

As NAD+ decreases, so does your body’s ability to perform efficiently.

Signs of low NAD+ levels

  • Fatigue and low energy levels
  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
  • Reduced physical endurance and strength
  • Slower recovery from exercise or injuries
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Weakened immune function
  • Premature signs of ageing, like skin changes

Fortunately, research shows that these signs of ageing, linked to declining NAD+ levels, can be slowed or even reversed by restoring NAD+ to optimal levels.

This benefits multiple organs, including the brain, cardiovascular system, and skin elasticity.

Can I take NAD+ supplements to boost NAD+ levels?

NAD+ supplements aren’t bioavailable in their direct form, and whilst NAD IV infusions exist, the process is often uncomfortable, causing nausea, cramping, and heightened sensitivity to noise—making it an unpleasant experience overall. Plus, it’s not something you can do every day.

On the other hand, scientists have explored alternative molecules that convert into NAD+ via enzymatic reactions, with NR being the most studied and renowned as longevity supplements.

Multiple studies show that supplementing with NR can increase NAD+ levels in the body, thereby supporting the various cellular functions that rely on this essential coenzyme.

What’s NR?

NR is a precursor of NAD+, naturally present in many foods and our body. This molecule acts as building blocks, enabling NAD+ production through metabolic pathways once consumed.

NR can be found in wild chicory, banana, and orange.

What is NR, and how does it work?

As a simpler molecule within the vitamin B3 family, NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) is composed of nicotinamide and ribose bonded together.

How does NR reverse signs of ageing?

NR supplements have the potential to slow the ageing process through its influence on NAD+ and SIRTs. Sirtuins are longevity proteins that

  • regulate DNA repair
  • protect cells from oxidative stress caused by free radicals (the bad guys which destroy everything they touch)
  • ensure cells die when they should (such that your body can effectively get rid of damaged or dead cells)

While these are the 3 main factors to reverse or reduce the signs of ageing, DNA repair is the key to longevity. Your DNA is copied each time your cell divides, which occurs nearly 2 trillion times a day.

Every time your DNA replicates, it undergoes a little wear-and-tear damage. Sirtuins are required to repair DNA, maintain genetic stability, and slow DNA damage that is responsible for ageing. NR supplements act on these mechanisms, providing anti-ageing benefits.

AVEA’s NR supplement: NAD+ Vitaliser

What is NR, and how does it work?

NAD+ Vitaliser features Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride (NR), a clinically studied NAD⁺ precursor. It is manufactured with the highest standards of purity and bioavailability.

Formulated by experts to support your daily energy and focus needs with high-quality, our NAD+ Vitaliser consists of:

  • 300 mg of Nicotinamide Riboside
  • Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) from green tea – included for its potent natural anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Vitamin B12 – Contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, the normal function of the nervous system, the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and the maintenance of normal psychological function.

Maximise the impact of NR by upgrading to NAD+ Vitaliser Bundle

Whilst NR lays the foundation for boosting NAD+ levels, research shows that a multitarget approach can further maximise its benefits.
Supporting NAD+ from every angle includes:

  • Optimising how NAD+ is produced and used.
  • Protecting NAD+ from depletion.
  • Enhancing the recycling cycle of NAD+.

NAD+ levels are most effectively restored when NR is paired with scientifically researched ingredients targeting these key pathways. That’s why AVEA created the NAD+ Vitaliser Bundle, combining NAD+ Vitaliser with NAD+ Booster.

What is NR, and how does it work?

Our Booster contains six potent antioxidants, each working in synergy with NAD+ Vitaliser to provide the best solution for boosting NAD+ levels.

  1. Resveratrol and Pterostilbene activate longevity proteins called sirtuins, ensuring NAD+ is used efficiently for key processes and not wasted.
  2. CoQ10 improves mitochondrial function and reduces oxidative stress. This protects cells from damage that would otherwise deplete NAD+.
  3. Apigenin inhibits CD38, an enzyme that accelerates NAD+ depletion, especially as you age. Lower CD38 activity preserves NAD+ for vital processes.
  4. Betaine, a methyl donor, supports the recycling of NAD+ by providing the resources your body needs to keep NAD+ levels steady, even during stress.
  5. Nicotinamide provides the raw materials needed to recycle and produce NAD+. This ensures a consistent supply of NAD+ required for energy and repair.

The Vitaliser Bundle allows you to target multiple pathways of NAD+ metabolism, promoting energy, cellular repair, and long term overall health.

Health benefits of boosting NAD+ with the Vitaliser Bundle

1. More energy, fewer dips

The NAD+ Vitaliser Bundle helps increase your body’s NAD+ levels – thanks to Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride (NR), a clinically studied NAD+ precursor. Combined with CoQ10, which supports mitochondrial efficiency, and Vitamin B12, which contributes to normal energy metabolism, you may feel more energised throughout the day, with fewer afternoon crashes and better physical endurance.

2. Feeling more resilient as you age

Ageing begins at the cellular level. NR, Resveratrol, and Pterostilbene work together to support the body’s sirtuin activity – proteins involved in cellular maintenance and repair. With improved NAD+ availability and antioxidant support from EGCG, this bundle is designed to help your cells function optimally for longer. Many users describe a subtle but noticeable shift: improved skin tone, better recovery, and a general sense of vitality.

3. Support for heart and metabolic health

Ingredients like CoQ10 and Resveratrol have been studied for their roles in supporting blood vessel function and protecting cells from oxidative stress. Betaine and Vitamin B12 contribute to normal homocysteine metabolism – an important process for maintaining cardiovascular health. Together, these ingredients support balanced metabolism, especially when combined with an active lifestyle.

4. Sharper thinking, calmer mind

With the combined support of NR, CoQ10, and Vitamin B12, many users report clearer thinking and better focus. These ingredients help maintain cellular energy in brain cells and support nervous system function. EGCG and Apigenin, known for their antioxidant and neuro-calming properties, may support emotional balance and resilience under stress – without causing drowsiness.

5. Easier recovery after physical or mental effort

You may find that you’re bouncing back faster from workouts, long days, or travel. NR plays a key role in muscle cell metabolism through NAD+, while CoQ10 supports mitochondrial recovery. EGCG provides natural anti-inflammatory activity, and Apigenin may further help modulate stress responses. It’s the kind of support that helps you stay active and feel less drained after pushing your limits.

6. A more balanced metabolism

Maintaining energy without the highs and lows? That comes down to metabolic balance. NR, Betaine, and Nicotinamide all play roles in NAD+ production and recycling – essential for cellular metabolism. Vitamin B12 contributes to normal macronutrient metabolism, while Resveratrol has been studied for its influence on metabolic flexibility. With these ingredients working together, you may notice more stable energy and fewer cravings throughout the day.

How to choose the best NR supplement?

When choosing an NR supplement, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Effectiveness

The best way to measure an NAD+ booster’s impact? By how much it raises plasma NAD+ levels. That’s the gold standard.

AVEA’s Vitaliser uses Nicotinamide Riboside Chloride NR. NR is proven not just to boost NAD+, but to support key aspects of health: from cardiovascular and metabolic function to cognitive performance and cellular resilience.

2. Safety

Purity and dosage matter. AVEA uses precisely measured ingredients, free from unnecessary additives, with a formulation based on current clinical research – prioritising safety without compromising efficacy.

3. Reputable manufacturer

Trust the science and the source. AVEA partners with leading researchers and Swiss innovation labs to ensure every product is tested, transparent, and held to the highest manufacturing standards.

4. Combo with synergistic supplements

NR works best when supported by compounds that complement and enhance its effects – which is exactly why AVEA’s NAD+ Vitaliser combines NR with EGCG and Vitamin B12.

  • EGCG, a potent antioxidant from green tea, helps reduce inflammation and oxidative stress – two factors known to deplete NAD+ levels over time. By lowering this cellular stress, EGCG supports a more efficient NAD+ production process and helps protect cells from damage.
  • Vitamin B12 plays a crucial role in energy metabolism and neurological function – both of which are supported by NAD+. Without adequate B12, your body can’t fully utilise NAD+ for energy production or nervous system support. B12 also helps maintain methylation balance, which is essential for NR metabolism and long-term NAD+ synthesis.

Together, this trio works in synergy: NR boosts NAD+, EGCG protects that increase from being depleted, and B12 ensures your body can properly use and sustain it – supporting energy, cognition, and long-term cellular health.

What is NR, and how does it work?

Does NR have side effects?

Studies suggest NR is generally safe for most people. However, high doses may lead to side effects like headache, fatigue, nausea, or muscle cramps – especially at levels above 1,000mg/day.

Unlike other B3 forms, NR typically doesn’t cause flushing. Still, in a study with Parkinson’s patients taking 1,500mg daily, some adverse effects were reported – though many also occurred in the placebo group.

NR may also lower blood pressure, so if you’re on hypertension medication or prone to low blood pressure, speak to your doctor first.

Who should consider taking NR supplements?

NR supplements are designed to support your cells’ ability to produce energy and repair themselves – making them relevant for anyone interested in healthy ageing.

They’re particularly worth considering if you’re noticing signs like:

  • Low energy or fatigue
  • Dull, tired-looking skin
  • Cardiovascular concerns
  • Cognitive slowdown or brain fog
  • Chronic pain or discomfort

Even if you’re not dealing with specific age-related issues, many people take NR proactively – to support long-term vitality, boost NAD+ levels, and stay ahead of the ageing curve.
